In December 2017 I set up The Mayne Consultancy and realised a life long dream to work for myself, using my skills and experience to add value to a range of clients operating in different sectors.

In my opinion, there are two things that every consultant needs to deliver success for their clients:

– the first is to have the technical skills to do the job to a high standard,

– the and second is to be a people person.

and okay, there’s a third… to enjoy it!

Technical

Over the last 20 years, I’ve developed a broad base of highly transferable commercial skills. I’ve enjoyed senior roles in Sales, Marketing and Category Management functions. They’ve been in the FMCG sector for both own label and branded food and drink manufacturers, and leading UK retailers. The organisations were a mix of multi-nationals, SME’s, Plc’s, and family-owned businesses. They include Revlon International, Fox’s Biscuits, Pride Valley Foods, Findus, Cumbrian Seafoods and Greggs Plc.

Most recently I was Head of Category at Greggs Plc. running the Savoury Category, and also Business Lead for Trading (Commercial) on Project Sunrise  – Greggs largest ever change programme implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning solution.

Since then I’ve had the pleasure of working with a number of clients including two award-winning charities in the North East: The Alnwick Garden as Head of Commercial, and at YMCA North Tyneside in a Business Development and Marketing role.

How Does it Work?

Step

We agree a fixed period of time, this may be a day a week for three months, or full time for six months – the timeframe and scope completely depends on your needs

Step

We agree the scope and define what success looks like – for example, the project could be deliverable in 3 months, or it could be to lead a team through a period of change, or perhaps to lead a business unit to deliver a specific goal – or something completely different!

Step

In terms of my remuneration, we will agree a timeframe and day rate at the outset (plus agreed reasonable expenses).
